  • Do I Want a Male or Female Puppy?
When trying to decide on a new addition to your home, many people ask us about the differences between the Male and the Female Yorkie. In our opinion there are no distinct differences that would make one a better pet over the other. The Yorkie breed has such a wonderful, loving, animated, sweet personality that it's difficult to distinguish any differences based on gender alone. There are sometimes subtle differences in personality between littermates. Males tend to be more stable in mood than females – less prone to emotional swings. Male dogs have genitals that are easy to see, which makes some owners feel self-conscious. Female dogs are more prone to mood swings. They can be sweet and loving when they're happy – but a bit on the sulky side when they really, really don't like something. Females are affectionate, absolutely, but often on their own terms. They may request petting, then assert their independence by walking away when they've had enough. Do not let feminine problems such as heat cycles and bleeding steer you away from getting a female dog. If you are worried that she will bleed all over your house when that time comes, consider getting her spayed, which is the ideal thing to do anyway. Once spayed, rest assured that she will not bleed a single drop. Male dogs are just as affectionate as female dogs, both very beautiful and elegant...
  • Spay/Neuter Surgery
It is highly recommended and ALWAYS required to have your pet Yorkie spayed or neutered. This surgery is usually done at about 6 months of age in both males and females. The spay surgery is a bit more extensive for females, considering the uterus is removed. For Males, neutering surgery is usually considered a much easier procedure, with a quick recovery time. When spayed, females will no longer have their heat cycles or "period" to deal with...When neutered, the unpleasant habits that some male dogs have been given a bad reputation for are practically eliminated. Neutered Males get along well together and make great companions with other males as well as females.
  • Grooming
The Yorkie coat is unique to the breed and requires special attention. Their hair grows much the same as human hair. They do not shed. A thorough brushing/combing daily will prevent mats and tangles. The Yorkie coat can grow into a silky mantle with proper grooming, conditioning, and nutrition. Regular grooming is essential, even for pups who don't compete in the dog show. Don’t use human shampoo, as the pH can be too harsh for your pup and lead to itchy, dry skin. Pet nail clippers Pet shampoo and conditioner. Life’s Abundance Revitalizing Shampoo and Bath Fresh Mist are good choices. Hair dryer. You can use your own Dog brush. Don’t use a slicker brush; Yorkies don’t have an undercoat. Use a soft bristle brush for a short coat or a detangling pin brush for a long coat.
  • Will You Sell to Families With Children?
Absolutely! Yorkies are wonderful family dogs, and all of us adore children. We find that most breeders that will not sell to families with children do so due to the risk of children possibly harming the puppy. Over the years, we have come to find that adults can be just as clumsy with their Yorkies! We have been very fortunate to be able to place our Yorkies in only the best home. Several of these homes have children in the home or in their families. If you have smaller children in your home, you will find that we do recommend a larger puppy, preferably one that will be 5-7 lbs full grown. Children can be taught how to handle and treat a Yorkie! We hope to have small children again in our family in the near future, and the Yorkies will supervise them, but the point is they will get to experience Yorkies!
  • Is it Normal for Yorkie to Change Color?
Yorkies are born with black and tan markings. However, their colors can change as they age, giving them a distinctive look that their owners know and love. The AKC breed standards require adult dogs to have a dark steel-blue coat from the dog's neck to tail and not allow for the silver-blue color or for mixing black or lighter colored hairs.
  • Morkie vs Yorkie: What’s the Difference?
    · The main difference between Morkies and Yorkies is that the Morkie is a crossbreed between the Maltese and a Yorkie. These two breeds are classified as toy dog breeds. · They're both toy breeds, and they look quite similar. · On average, the Morkie is taller and heavier than the Yorkie. Also, the Yorkie only comes in combinations of blue and tan/gold colors, while the Morkie comes in a larger variety of colors. · Also, while the Yorkie is a purebred dog that is recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), the Morkie is not. They are still not officially recognized as a breed. This means that, since like all designer dogs, Morkie isn’t recognized by the AKC, you won’t be getting official pedigree papers when you get your puppy. · Morkie are lively, playful, and gentle puppies. They make wonderful pets for children, more specifically for older children who can be gentle with their small size. They make excellent playmates for small children, however, supervision is advised. They also get along well with other pets and strangers.
  • How Often Should I Bathe My Puppy?
As a general rule, you should bathe your Yorkie around every 2-3 weeks. It’s okay to bathe your Yorkie weekly but this usually isn’t necessary. Yorkies with long hair may need to be bathed more often than pups with short hair.We use a quality doggy Revitalizing Shampoo with a neutral pH that helps detangle their hair without irritating their skin. The luscious scents of mango and kiwi mingle with energizing citrus notes to bring out natural shine. Keeping your Yorkie clean between baths Your Yorkie probably needs a little help to stay clean between baths, especially if he has long hair. Bath Fresh Mist is helpful for cleaning around the underbelly, rear, and legs. You’ll also want to pay attention to the eyes to clean away eye gunk with a flea comb and warm, damp towel.
  • Puppy Pick-Up
When your puppy is ready to go to new home the puppy must be picked up in person so there is a face-to-face transaction or the new owner must meet with us or our shipping agent at the agreed location. But I understand that not everyone is within an easy driving distance to my home. In these cases where you may need to fly here to pick up your new baby I will be happy to meet you at Portland International Airport (PDX) to deliver the puppy.
